Microsoft Lumia 840 is the new unreleased smartphone that is expected to come out to replace the older Lumia 830 that was released last year alongside the Lumia 730. The Lumia 830 that is one of the last smarpthones to carry the Nokia moniker is rumoured to get discontinued starting in India. Once the existing stocks at the stores get finished, it will not be replenished.

On April 17, the International Business Times reported that Microsoft is rumoured to launch devices like the Lumia 940, the Lumia 940 XL, the Lumia 840 and the Lumia 740 XL. Among these, the Lumia 940 and the Lumia 940 XL are considered as Windows 10 flagship devices, reports another IBTimes post. As far as the Lumia 840 is concerned, it will be launched with Windows Phone 8.1 GDR Update 2 out of the box, states Nokia Power User (NPU).

The NPU report claims that the Lumia 830 was criticised for featuring the Snapdragon 400 chipset and 0.9 MP front-facing camera. The Lumia 730 that was launch alongside it features the same chipset and a fabulous 5 MP selfie optimized camera.

NPU post has an image of the purported Lumia 840. The IBTimes report that cites NPU post claims that the Lumia 840 will be housing a 5-inch display screen. However, the screen resolution of the device has not been revealed. The predecessor Lumia 830’s 5-inch screen supported HD resolution. There is no confirmation on whether the Lumia 840 will feature the same HD resolution or come with support for full HD resolution.

The Lumia 840 will be a dual SIM handset that is expected to come with a better processor compared to the older model. The Lumia 830 featured a 10 MP rear camera. However, the newer model is expected to come with 13-14 MP PureView technology enabled rear camera along with 5 MP selfie camera sitting at the front side of the device.

Lastly, it will carry a midrange price tag and is expected to launch very soon. As of this writing, Microsoft has not revealed any information on the Lumia 840. Also the information revealed by NPU may change when the device is announced officially. To report problems or to leave feedback about this article, email: a.sivanandan@ibtimes.com.au
