NFL News: Michael Bennett Denies Trade Request From Seattle Seahawks
Early in the offseason of the National Football League, or NFL, there were rumours that Michael Bennett, the defensive end for the Seattle Seahawks, has demanded a trade from the team. Bennett has denied those talks in a radio interview and said that he never asked the Seahawks officials for a trade and never them about any trade.
“Man, like I said, they made rumors about Jesus, they’ll make rumors about anybody,” Bennett said to 710 ESPN Seattle radio in the the Justin and Gee Show and also reported by Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times. “I never asked for it. I didn’t come to them asking for a trade. I’m still trying to figure out how a guy from Dallas make up a story about me, I’m living in Seattle, I’m like how does that happen? I’m in Hawaii surfing, got the kids surfing in the ocean and they are talking about something else.”
In the same interview, Bennett described his relationship with the team as “good” and that both sides are talking. Bennett was not asked about the situation with his contract with the team but early reports in the 2014 offseason have stated that Bennett’s side is demanding for his contract to be restructured. Bennett’s current deal has him under contract until the 2017 season and he will earn about $7 million to $8 million per year.
Bennett was signed by the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2009 but never played for the team. He went to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and suited up for the team from 2009 to 2012. He joined Seattle in 2013 and has played in two full seasons with the squad. Bennett helped Seattle win Super Bowl XLVIII in 2013 and to back-to-back NFC titles in 2013 and 2014. For his career, he has recorded 167 tackles, 30.5 quarterback sacks, 3 pass deflections and 6 forced fumbles.
