NFL News: Slow Progress On Seattle Seahawks, Russell Wilson Contract Extension Talks
Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll admitted in a recent interview that the progress in the contract extension talks with star quarterback Russell Wilson has been slow but that both parties still have on-going negotiations.
Carroll said in a radio interview on ESPN on Saturday that the talks are “going a little slow, but it’s on-going” and that the Seattle brass is “waiting to hear from their [Wilson’s] side” as also reported from The Seattle Times.
Wilson, while did not refer to the contract negotiations, share a mysterious message on social media Twitter on Sunday.
Over the weekend, Carroll said that they are committed to bringing back the quarterback for the next few years.
“We don’t want to talk much about it because there is just a lot of stuff, it’s such a crucial thing. We are so excited to get Russell and keep him here forever. … but it’s a big deal, and there is a lot of work to be done,’ the Seahawks head coach said in an interview after the 2015 NFL Draft.
This is the same message Seattle general manager John Schneider said back in mid-April when he said that Wilson was their starting quarterback and that they have a history of rewarding their players who are considered a core part of the team.
Wilson, who has made the NFL Pro Bowl twice in his career in 2013 and 2014, has recorded 9,950 passing yards, 1,877 rushing yards with 72 passing TDs and 26 rushing TDs in three years with the Seahawks. Wilson, who will be paid only $1.5 million if no deal is re-worked, is expected to be demanding about $15 million to $20 million per season, a contract comparable to other star quarterbacks in the league.
