NHL News: Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres Fire GM And Coaches After Disappointing Seasons
After similar disappointing seasons, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres are firing their head coaches in Peter Horacheck and Ted Nolan.
The Maple Leafs are also letting go of general manager David Nonis. In an official press release from the Maple Leafs franchise, Brendan Shanahan, the president and alternate governor of the squad announced that they are relieving both Nonis and Horacheck of their duties with the team.
Horacheck was the interim head coach of the squad and will be fired along with other coaches Steve Spott, Chris Dennis and Rick St. Croix. Nonis was named the senior vice president and GM in 2013 while Horacheck was named the as the assistant coach in July of 2014 and took over as interim head coach last January.
Meanwhile, Nolan was hired as the head coach in 2013 and was on his second stint as mentor for the Sabres, which Nolan coached from 1995 to 1997.
"I don't think it was a bad fit. I don't think it was a great fit," Sabres GM Tim Murray said to ESPN. "Maybe it's just chemistry. Maybe it's just two different personalities." Both the Maple Leafs and Sabres were eliminated early in the 2014-2015 regular season.
The recent firings was not a surprise as Toronto only had 30 wins while Buffalo had 23 wins out of the 82 regular season games both struggling the entire year. The Sabres had the worst record in the entire league.
