Nokia Lumia: Bluetooth 4.0 LE Support Confirmed to All Windows Phone 8 Handsets with Lumia Black Software Update
The Nokia Lumia 720, 625, 620 and 520 Windows Phone handsets already have the Bluetooth LE (Low Energy) support with the Amber update. Now, Finnish smartphone maker Nokia has confirmed through the official Nokia FAQ page that all of the Windows Phone 8 handsets will have support for the Bluetooth 4.0 LE with the Lumia Black software update.
Nokia's full support page answer reads: "Bluetooth LE allows you to connect your phone with special accessories like heart rate monitors. While doing that, thanks to Bluetooth LE connection, the accessory battery will last much longer, up to months. It is already available for 520, 620, 625, and 720 with Amber. With Lumia Black software update, Bluetooth LE will be enabled across the full WP8 Lumia range."
The Amber update on the Nokia Lumia 720, 625, 620 and 520 has brought the support for Bluetooth 4.0. It has also allowed the Adidas miCoach app to function as the device owner's heart rate monitoring accessory.
Enabling the Bluetooth 4.0 LE support on all of the Nokia Lumia Windows Phone 8 range will now allow more heart monitoring and fitness accessories including the smart watches. The Bluetooth 4.0 LE support will allow the Nokia Lumia users to sync their handset with another gadget with less transmission energy therefore resulting to conservation of battery power.
As for the upcoming Black software update, it will bring in the Bluetooth 4.0 to the all of the remaining Windows Phone 8 handsets. The latest update is expected to include enhancements on camera features, the new Glance always-on screen technology and the RAW camera support for the Nokia Lumia 1020 smartphone and Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet.
However, Nokia has not given any announcement yet when it comes to the roll out schedule of the Black update. "Unfortunately, when it comes to the Black update, mentioned earleir, there is no word on when it will be roll out. All we know right now is that the Nokia Black software will be loaded on the Nokia Lumia 1520, but Nokia hasn't even announced the release date for that device yet," the Gizbot report reads.
