One Direction to sing ‘Perfect’ after Liam Payne’s breakup from Sophia Smith
It has been confirmed that Liam Payne and his longtime girlfriend Sophia Smith have split. A day after the confirmation, the American Music Awards 2015 announced that One Direction will perform their latest single during the upcoming awards ceremony.
Payne and Smith dated for more than two before their breakup, which E News confirmed on Oct. 26, Monday. However, the details about what caused the breakup have yet to be revealed. On Oct. 27, Tuesday, the AMAs announced that One Direction will perform “Perfect” live at Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles on Nov. 22.
Released on Oct. 16, “Perfect” is the second single from “Made in the A.M.” The first single released from the album is its lead single titled “Drag Me Down,” which was released on July 31.
One Direction is among the nominees for the AMAs’ Artist of the Year. The band will compete against The Weeknd, Meghan Trainor, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Nicki Minaj, Maroon 5, Ariana Grande, Luke Bryan and Taylor Swift.
With six nominations, Swift dominates the AMAs. Aside from Artist of the Year, the “Bad Blood” singer is also nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock Female Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album for “1989,” Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, Song of the Year for “Blank Space” and Collaboration of the year with Kendrick Lamar for “Bad Blood.”
On the other hand, One Direction received two nominations. The band is also nominated for Favorite Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group along with Maroon 5 and Walk the Moon.
Before performing ‘Perfect” at the AMAs, One Direction will release their fifth studio album titled “Made in the A.M.” on Nov. 13. It is the band’s first album without their former member Zayn Malik.
Jennifer Lopez will be the host and one of the performers during the AMAs, which will air live on ABC. Performing during the awards ceremony are "American Idol" alum Carrie Underwood, "The Heart Wants What It Wants" singer Selena Gomez and the Australian pop punk band Five Seconds of Summer.
