Catching a Shiny can become the pride of some players who have been following the Pokemon game franchise for years. With "Pokemon X and Y," all kinds of tricks and tips are needed in order for these rare Pokemons to be found within the game.

How to Catch a Shiny in a New Colour

If you are on a Shiny hunting spree for "Pokemon X and Y," it's good to have some much-needed equipment to get you started and keep you fueled in your search

Kotaku has found an illustrated step-by-step guide that details all of these steps, which can be found here. Basically, what the guide says is that you need the Poke-Radar, the Max Repel (so buy a lot of these), and Pokeballs (it's the biggest mistake to confront a Shiny without one).

When you get into the "Pokemon X and Y" game, load your Poke-Radar by walking 50 steps, go on a search for a big field, starting with the ones found in either Route 5 or in the secret garden in City of the 8th Gym. When you're in the field, use the Max Repel and check that there are no holes in the patch of grass.

Chaining Pokemon: Patience Breeds Rewards

For those who have the patience and the time to chain Pokemons, this is an effective way to get a Shiny in "Pokemon X and Y." Chaining, in essence, is a way by which you meet a Pokemon of the same kind over and over again. Completing a chain increases your chances of meeting a Shiny Pokemon.

According to U.S. Gamer, you can even increase your chances from 1 of 8,000 to 1 of 200 chances, which is a pretty sweet bet.

There are some things that you should remember when trying to chain Pokemons. For instance, aside from the Poke-Radar, you need the Super Repels, to avoid running into other Pokemons that you are not hunting. For chaining purposes, grass patches that are at least 5 by 5 and bigger should be your best bet.

Avoid skating or cycling when chaining, as this will break the chain. Go for 40 chains in "Pokemon X and Y," and that will be enough for a Shiny. After getting to 40, reset your Poke-Radar until you get to the Shiny patch and wait for hints of a Shiny Pokemon.

Go for Chain Fishing

A supposed slightly easier way to get a Shiny in "Pokemon X and Y," chain fishing is another way to up your chances to capture that rare Pokemon. GameRanx has found a video created by NintendoFanGirl detailing how to catch a Shiny with that method.

There are a number of things that you need, including Ultra Balls, Dive Balls, and Inkay or Octillery Pokemons (for their Suction Cup abilities). The first think you would have to do is go to Route 16 and talk to a fisherman in one of the houses. He'll be talking to you about chanting.

You'll be casting your line in an area near the ocean with a lot of rocks. The trick is to cast your line and reel every time exclamation points appear. If a non-Shiny appears, run before the battle starts and just keep casting your line.

Chain fishing in "Pokemon X and Y" means that you can't break the chain for a number of non-shinies. You'll have to keep casting your line and running away from battles until you get to around 40 chains, but this is still dependent on chance---just be patient and don't break the chain.
