New PlayStation 4 update brings a raft of major updates and much-requested features. Following a spate of leaks and rumours, the long awaited PlayStation 4 update 2.50, codenamed Yukimura, is finally set for release on March 26. Yukimura brings with it a slew of long-awaited features, including suspend/resume, button remapping, data back-up and more.

As previously reported, the Yukimura update has been in beta for a few weeks already, with some members of the PlayStation MVP program given access for testing purposes. The PlayStation Blog has finally confirmed the full feature list and dated its release for March 26.

The headline feature of the update is suspend/resume, which allows gamers to place the PS4 in Rest Mode even in the middle of a game. Users can then power up the PS4 later, to pick up immediately where they left off. Suspend/resume was first advertised during the PlayStation 4’s initial unveiling in February 2013 and is a popular feature on the handheld PS Vita due to the level of convenience it offers.

It’s worth noting that Sony stops short of saying all games will support suspend/resume. It seems likely that games that require an active network connection such as MMOs and online multiplayer games will naturally feature limited support.

Another highly anticipated feature making its debut in update 2.50 is the ability to remap buttons at the system level. Customised button assignments are part of an expanded suite of accessibility options featured in update 2.50. Button remapping will let players who would rather use alternate control schemes in certain games create a single custom profile without the need for developer support.

As noted by Eurogamer, PlayStation owners will be able to back up and restore data stored on the PS4 hard drive to external hard drives and USB sticks. The types of data supported include settings, saved data, screenshots, video clips, games, patches and downloaded data. In addition, gamers with PSN sub-accounts can now upgrade to full accounts, removing the associated restrictions. The full list of new features packed into update 2.50 includes:
