PS4 Tops Preorder & Retail Charts, Goes Viral with Used Games Vid & Wins Over a New Game
Over the weekend following the E3 2013, all that Sony's PS4 did was rise up the charts for preorders as well as dominate online retailers when it comes to its products and accessory games.
CinemaBlend reports that the PlayStation 4 has taken over most of the online retailers in terms of preorder sales. For those who are still on the Xbox One's side of the argument, it's not to say that the console has fallen off the grid, given how there are some retailers, such as GameStop Germany, Spain, and UK.
But for the rest of the retailers, especially in the US, it seems that the PS4 is going on the lead by a landslide. Some of the discrepancy may be related to the earlier report regarding the pricing of the PS4 in some areas, such as Australia, which are said to be more expensive than what has been announced for the US at $399.
In PlayStation Lifestyle's report, which looks at Amazon, it showed that, with the exception of the second spot, which was still held by Microsoft's Xbox One Console--Day One Edition, everything else is devoted to the PS4 product.
These include thePS4 Standard Edition console, PS4 Launch Day edition console, DualShock 4 controller, games, and even PS3 products and games.
Part of this domination is clearly coming from the way the PS4 also dominated the E3 2013 over its main competitor. And part of this may also be due to the fact that Microsoft has remained adamant over most of its claims during the E3 2013 regarding its next-gen console.
A joke turned viral success for PS4?
Who knew that a few minutes between rehearsals during the E3 2013 would create a video that could rake in as much as?
That's what happened with the video that features Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida and SCEA head of publisher relations Adam Boyes. The video is a one-step tutorial on how to lend used games, one that was created as a joke, but served as both a big, humorous highlight to Sony's E3 conference and has become an Internet favorite.
Reports have already posed that it may be Sony's aggressive side towards the competition, potentially a good timing considering the many boo-boos that Microsoft seems to be making one after the other.
However, on Sony's side of the field, the video was just created for fun. In fact, it wasn't even the highlight ad that was supposed to be released.
"We're just trying to have fun, that's the thing," said Boyes to Joystiq. "And we're all gamers, and the people that we work with are gamers, and they care, and it comes through. And it's just genuine."
PlayStation Lifestyle reports that it had even created an advertising campaign, Greatness Awaits, which involved a lot of work, special effects, extras, actors, and props.
However, while gaining a good number of views and likes, it was still trumped by the tutorial video, which kind of shows where the gamers and consumers are leaning towards in terms of why Sony may just win the battle.
Watch the short video, which pretty much shows just how easy Sony wants gamers' lifestyle to be.
DayZ creator, go for PS4, no for Xbox One?
Another indie game may be in Sony's belt for its next generation console PS4, as DayZ, the zombie fest game, is now being considered for the console. As an indie, creator Dean Hall definitely has his eyes on a PS4 release, after a PC version goes out.
"Sony lets you self-publish and they don't make you pay for updates," said Hall to Eurogamer. "Microsoft requires you to have a publisher. They have no digital distribution strategy and they require you to pay $10,000, or whatever it is, for updates."
As for Microsoft, Eurogamer reports that nothing is set in stone, and a definite "no" is not yet available for confirmation.
But, unless Microsoft's ban for self-published titles and unnecessary fees are not abolished or amended, it seems that the Xbox One will have a hard time stepping into indie territory.
