‘Sons of Anarchy' Charlie Hunnam On Teenage Rebellion And Getting In Touch With His Feminine Side
Banned from going to his school trip in Florence, “Sons of Anarchy” star Charlie Hunnam revealed that his teacher thought of him as a “menace to society.” Now fast forward to 20 years and the “menace” is now one of the most successful British stars in Hollywood and is currently playing "King Arthur” in Guy Ritchie’s “Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur.”
“While he was away, I broke into his stash of acrylic paints and painted this giant crushed-up Coke can,” Hunnam told Elle Canada after his teacher banned him from an art-history trip. “It was maybe the best painting I’d ever done, but he ripped it up in front of the whole class. So I threw some of these scissors at him, and they landed in the doorframe parallel to his head. And that was it—they expelled me from school.”
The actor revealed that he was so angry and humiliated when the teacher ripped his work of art in front of his whole class, and felt like crying during that time. But since crying is not acceptable to him at that point of his life, he chose to throw a scissor just to get back at him.
Now that he completely put his teenage angst behind him, Hunnam mellowed down into someone who is respected and loved by his peers. He now understands that violence is never an option, and a real man knows how to stay by his own two feet and lives by his code of honour. He admitted that being a man also means to be in touch with one’s feminine side, and that “real strength allows for vulnerability.”
Months after he wrapped up his FX biker drama series “Sons of Anarchy,” the 34-year-old star is ready to get back to the big screen with new projects lining up for him. Aside from a starring role in “Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur,” Hunnam is set to star in Brad Pitt’s “Lost City of Z” and “American Druglord.”
He is also set to reprise his role in Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim 2”. While waiting for these movies, fans can check out Hunnam and “Thor” star Tom Hiddleston in the upcoming movie “Crimson Peak.”
