'Star Trek 3': Details About The Possible Villain Faction And The Actor In Talks To Play Their Leader Revealed
A new report gives fans hints about what to expect from “Star Trek 3.” The rival faction that the Federation and the USS Enterprise will have to face in the movie and the actor who is said to be in early talks to play the leader of the faction have been revealed in the report. [Warning: Spoilers Alert!]
The Klingons may be coming back in “Star Trek 3.” According to a report by Variety, Idris Elba is in “early talks” with the producers to play the role of the main villain in the movie. Paramount Pictures and Skydance have apparently offered no comment on the subject.
Although the report cites a source for the news about Idris Elba playing the villain, the report on the Klingons coming back in the movie is said to be based on “early rumours.” The Klingon Empire has been a major force in the TV series of the franchise and multiple movies that were released previously.
The Klingons have not appeared in the recent movies of the franchise, since the reboot started with Chris Pine playing the role of Kirk and Zachary Quinto playing the role of his best friend Spock. The two movies before “Star Trek 3” have featured a villain from the Romulan Empire and a genetic supersoldier called Khan, respectively.
Unlike some of the other races encountered by the Federation, the Klingons are a warrior race. They look down on common comforts, even in space, and seek glory in battle. Death during battle is seen as one of the most honourable achievements for a Klingon.
Some of the actors who have played the role of a Klingon in the TV series and in the movies are Michael Dorn as Worf in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” Christopher Plummer as General Chang in “Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country,” John Larroquette as Maltz in “Star Trek: The Search for Spoch” and Brian Thompson as Klag in “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”
If Idris Elba is confirmed to play the role of a Klingon in “Star Trek 3,” he will be joining Zoe Saldana as Uhura, John Cho as Sulu, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Anton Yelchin as Chekov and Karl Urban as Dr Bones. Idris recently completed filming for the movie “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” in which he will be reprising his role as Heimdall.
