'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' To Connect To ‘Return Of The Jedi’ With Twenty New Star Wars Books
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is one of the most anticipated films of 2015. The storyline of the film will be reportedly set 20 years after the events of “Return of The Jedi.” However, to bridge the gap between the “Return of Jedi” and new sequel trilogy, Disney has reportedly decided to release twenty new Star Wars books.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the books will give a peek into the life of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo after the events of “Return of The Jedi.” They will target adults, teens and younger kids. The new Star Wars books series will consist of novels, story and sticker books and will be called “Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The books will also give hint about the J.J Abrams’ film; however, it will only allow the reader to “speculate about the new film,” says Andrew Sugerman, executive vice president of Disney Publishing Worldwide.
Moreover, Andrew also had his praises for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” plot. “The Force Awakens is an extraordinarily, heavily guarded storyline,” he said. He also said that that “to track” the film’s storyline a lot of hush-hush meetings happened. “The partnership with the story group and the editorial team always had to be true to the sanctity of the film while making sure that we find these moments to introduce hints, clues and puzzle pieces,” he added.
Furthermore, according to Cinemablend, with the twenty new stories the concept of “Expanded Universe” will stay. It was previously stated by Lucasfilm that the novels and stories that dealt with the expanded universe will be discarded as the new films will be free from previous story points of the Star Wars characters, reported Entertainment Tonight.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is scheduled to be released in December this year. The film stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker. Lucasfilm, Walt Disney Pictures and Abrams' Bad Robot Productions are producing the film.
