‘Suicide Squad': David Ayer Shares First Official Look At Will Smith In His Deadshot Costume
“Suicide Squad” director David Ayer has finally revealed the first official look at Will Smith as Deadshot. In a photo shared by Ayer on his Twitter page, Smith could be seen dressed in his character costume complete with the weapons.
David Ayer shared the photo of the actor in his Deadshot costume on Monday, May 4 and simply captioned it with “Deadshot” and the hash tag “#SuicideSquad.” It has since received over 14 thousand likes and over 13 thousand retweets. Among those who retweeted the photo was “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice” director Zack Snyder.
The full reveal of Will Smith’s Deadshot costume for “Suicide Squad” also received praises from fans. A Twitter user named Noah praised David Ayer and his team for doing “an amazing job” on the costume, which he thought was “too perfect.” While user TS Comics thought the full character representation was “ripped right out of the comics.”
Cinema Blend likewise claimed Will Smith’s Deadshot costume pays homage to the comic book character. The site shared a photo of the masked assassin taken from the comics and it clearly shows a resemblance to the actor’s final costume in the film. As Cinema Blend writer Eric Eisenberg said, David Ayer and his team really went the “who nine yards in making the actor look as close to his comic book counterpart as possible.”
“Suicide Squad” scoopster Umberto Gonzalez once said on his Instagram post that Will Smith’s Deadshot mask will be slightly open to reveal his mouth. Eisenberg likewise said that some of the character’s interactions in the comics also show an opening over the mouth. However, David Ayer has apparently decided to fully cover the actor’s face, despite previous concerns about Will Smith’s face being too much of an investment to be fully hidden in the movie.
However, the photo also confirms Gonzalez’s previous post about the rifle taking centerpiece among Deadshot’s weapons in “Suicide Squad.” The actor is also equipped with other weapons to fully complete his Deadshot costume. Will Smith also has the trademark wrist launches and two pistols strapped around his waist, much like in the comics. As for Deadshot’s vest, Gonzalez said on his Instagram post that the molded material is probably bullet proof.
