Like a true Hollywood leading man, Justin Bieber should stand by her girl in good times and bad.

Bieber and girlfriend Selena Gomez have never shied away from public displays of affection. The two have been snapped canoodling in exotic locales around the world.

However, given the recent tragedy in the young starlet's life, Gomez might be needing more than physical comfort from her famous boyfriend.

Hollywood Life talks exclusively to psychotherapist Dr. Gilda Carle to find out exactly what Bieber can do for Gomez in the wake of her mother's devastating miscarriage.

"Justin has to be the best listener in the world. He can't say 'Do this' or 'Do that.' He has to just listen to her and, as he's listening, just touch her arm or her shoulder and let her know that he'll be emotionally present for her and her mom. He needs to encourage her to speak her feelings and not to hold her pain inside," Dr. Carle tells Hollywood Life.

She also warns the young superstar that he might find his girlfriend different personality-wise.

"If she doesn't express her pain and process it, it will come out later when she least expects it. It will come out as anger about something else. She'll snap at somebody and not be her normal self," she explains.

"Only when she talks and feels the emotion... only after that can she let it go. She also has to be able to discuss her feelings in a safe environment, so Justin shouldn't criticize her or tell her to 'Get over it.' He has to be patient with her. If he provides support to her, it could make their relationship even stronger," she adds.

Bieber and Gomez have been dating since December 2010. It hasn't always been a smooth ride, despite being constantly seen out and about.

After all, this isn't the first baby drama for the young couple. Bieber has recently been accused of fathering a child out of wedlock. He has agreed to take a paternity test to clear his name.

In the wake of the most recent shock, Gomez can take comfort in the fact that there are plenty of people wishing her well - not just her pop phenomenon boyfriend.

Twitter is flooded with messages of goodwill and prayers for the former Disney princess, from fans and friends.

Demi Lovato, Gomez's best friend from childhood, is quick to offer words of comfort through the popular social medium.

"I love you," Lovato tweets to her friend, keeping it short and heartfelt.
