Beyond the PS4, Xbox One and current-gen consoles, video games are fast dominating another industry---the movies. Starting 2014, there will be a string of video games turned movies, and fans are already looking forward to them with high hopes and expectations.

'Assassin's Creed'

Aside from the fact that this may be the first movie coming out from Ubisoft Motion Pictures, one other factor that keeps this movie in fans' minds is that Michael Fassbender ("X-Men: First Class," "12 Years a Slave") will star in the film.

While there has been a recent delay that pushed the release date from June 19, 2015 to Aug 7, 2015, it seems that "Assassin's Creed" is still going strong. According to Joystiq, the delay is most probably just due to Fox having to shift around its line-up of movies.

'Angry Birds'

Once the biggest hype to hit mobile devices, now Rovio's "Angry Birds" is also stretching the reach of its franchise to include movies.

The Hollywood Reporter states that veteran animators Fergal Reilly and Clay Kaytis are already on board the project as co-directors. This will be the debut movie for both of them on the director's seat.

"They are two of the brightest rising talents in animation, and I'm confident we are building the right team to tell the story of Angry Birds and deliver an amazing movie experience to our fans," said Mikael Hed, Rovio CEO, to The Hollywood Reporter.

Other names have also already been attached to the project, even though the "Angry Birds" feature movie is slated for a 2016 release. There's Jon Vitt for the screenplay, John Cohen and Catherine Winder as producers, and David Maisel as executive producer.

'Warcraft'

Another movie that's set to hit the screens in 2016 is "Warcraft," but already developments are coming out left and right.

The latest update here already includes the faces that audiences will be seeing on screen---unless they're part of the orc army. GameSpot reports that six stars have already signed on board, including Ben Foster ("X-Men: The Last Stand"), Paula Patton ("Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol"), Rob Kazinsky ("Pacific Rim"), Dominic Cooper ("An Education"), Travis Fimmel ("Vikings" TV series) and Toby Kebbell ("Wrath of the Titans").

The rumours that Colin Farrell will be playing a major role seem to be pure rumours, as the cast has already been announced via a press release with no Farrell in sight.

Production begins this January 2014, and a March 2016 release date is the goal for the "Warcraft" movie.

'Need for Speed'

"Need for Speed: Rivals" is one of the games currently being enjoyed by gamers, and now the "Need for Speed" feature-length movie was announced for a March 2014 release.

Game Informer reports that a new trailer has also come out, which can be seen below, and the movie will have the theme of revenge and fast cars.

Speaking of cars, Motor Authority has gotten in touch with Lance Gilbert, the stunt coordinator for "Need for Speed," and adds that there will be a race among three Koenigseggs, one of which will be a burning sight at the end (though no real harm will go to the real cars).

But the key to "Need for Speed" is that, despite CGI capabilities, the folks behind the scenes are aiming for a more realistic feel to the movie by pushing stunts to the extreme.

'Watch Dogs'

Even before the game has hit consoles, Ubisoft has announced that a movie version of "Watch Dogs" will be coming from Sony.

Variety reports that Sony may be partnering with New Regency for the film. So far, the storyline of "Watch Dogs" really has the making of a Hollywood film, at least according to one of the people behind it.

"The game has intense action and adventure, but the story focuses on information and the control of information, which we think will lead to an exciting thriller," said Hannah Minghella, president of production at Columbia Pictures, to Variety.
