The comicbook revelation that Dr. Jane Foster is the female Thor had fans questioning the outcome it may have on the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Previous reports had mentioned of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor being replaced by a woman, but this has never been truly confirmed by the studio. However, there’s reportedly a chance that Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster could become Thor based on some obvious film details under the MCU. [Spoiler Alert]

Cinema Blend listed down a couple of obvious reasons why Jane Foster could possibly become the next Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It has been established that Chris Hemsworth will carry on the role in “Thor: Ragnarok” until the two-part film “The Avengers: Infinity War.” However, the future of the God of Thunder after that remains uncertain. Hemsworth’s contract with Marvel supposedly only ends with “Infinity War,” providing an open slot for another to be cast if Marvel plans to adopt the Thor#8 storyline.

According to writer Eric Eisenberg, Natalie Portman’s Dr. Jane Foster could just be waiting for that moment when it’s her turn to suit up as the Goddess of Thunder. “If all this sounds familiar, it's because there has been similar speculation floated in the past surrounding other characters,” Eisenberg said. There were previous reports of either Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) or Anthony Mackie suiting up as Captain America. “Specifically, you may remember the big announcement from last summer that Sam Wilson - better known as Falcon - was going to become the new Captain America, replacing the super soldier serum-less Steve Rogers,” he added.

Additionally, that scene in “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” where the Avengers try to pick up Thor’s Mjolnir in exchange to rule Asgard, was supposedly also a hint that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will be replaced in the MCU. However, Paul Bettany’s The Vision didn’t actually become the God of Thunder when he successfully picked up the hammer.

Movieweb claimed there’s certainly the possibility of Natalie Portman becoming Thor especially under Phase 4. Chris Hemsworth’s six-movie contract ends with “Infinity War” and the recent reveal of Jane Foster being the female Thor opens up a lot of great storyline for Marvel's future films.

However, these are only fun speculations that fans may want to consider. Majority of Cinema Blend’s commentators thought Natalie Portman will not be suited as Thor considering her height at five feet and three inches tall. It may reportedly seem like an interesting comic book storyline but may take time to be adopted on film.
