Wafer-Thin ‘Oppo R5’ Features 5.2-Inch Display With 180 Degree Viewing Angle, Stainless Steel Body And 64-Bit SoC [Price Revealed]
It is a known fact that a slew of ultra-thin smartphones have been released in 2014. Hence, the benchmark is quite high for any new device to trump the slenderness quotient set by devices released in 2014. But now, there is a new competitor to the existing pack of super-thin smartphones in the form of Oppo R5.
Oppo's brand new smartphone R5 comes with 0.19-inch/4.85 mm thickness. Adding a cherry on top, the handset flaunts a stainless steel chassis. However, readers should note that, the camera unit juts out slightly from the phone's body, notes Phone Arena. As far as the key specifications go, the Oppo R5 features a 5.2-inch AMOLED display, complemented by 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution. Oppo says the handset's display can provide 180-degree viewing angles.
Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by a 64-bit, octa-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 615) processor with eight ARM Cortex-A53 cores. Out of the eight cores, four are clocked at 1.7 GHz and the other four at 1 GHz. In addition, the graphical unit is governed by the latest Adreno 405 and these configurations are held together by a good 2 GB of RAM.
On the software side, the handset runs on a forked version of Android v4.4.4 KitKat OS, along with Oppo's custom ColorOS. When it comes to memory, the device houses 16 GB of in-built storage. However, there is no microSD card for expansion. Speaking of camera configuration, the Oppo R5 sports a cool 13 MP Sony Exmor RS (IMX214) sensor, along with f/2.0 lens and an LED flash. And at the front, there is a respectable 5 MP snapper with 83-degree wide angle and f/2.0 lens. Moreover, the device comes in silver and gold hues. Apart from the standard connectivity options, the Oppo device supports 4G LTE. Lastly, the handset comes equipped with a modest Li-Po 2,000 mAh battery unit. Nonetheless, the battery has VOOC quick charging capability, like other Oppo devices.
Meanwhile, the Oppo R5 is priced at 2999 yuan in China, which roughly translates to US$485, AU$583 and 309 GBP. Sadly, there is no official information available on the international release date, at this point. What do you think of the Oppo R5? Can Oppo make an impact outside China with this handset? Feel free to leave a comment.
