'Wonder Woman': Joss Whedon Talks About Interest In The Movie And Being ‘DC Curious’
Hollywood writer and director Joss Whedon spoke about wanting to direct a “Wonder Woman” movie as well as a “Batman” movie, in a recent interview. He is currently promoting his latest superhero movie “Avengers 2” that opened with big numbers at the box office in the international market.
Joss Whedon has been directing movies for Marvel in the past few years, but has expressed his interest in making a “Wonder Woman” and “Batman” movies that belong to the DC Cinematic Universe. Speaking to IGN, the director explained that he has always been “DC-curious.”
“I desperately wanted to do a Batman film – who doesn’t? And I wanted to do Wonder Woman,” Joss Whedon said. The director described himself as being “the spectrum in between” Marvel and DC.
Joss Whedon was in the process of developing a “Wonder Woman” movie in the year 2005. That movie, however, never made it past the development stage and into production. The 2017 movie with the same name will now be directed by Patty Jenkins.
When asked about how he felt about the new “Wonder Woman” movie that he is not a part of, Joss Whedon said that he was “excited” to see the movie and just wanted them to “make it,” so that he can see it.
The 2017 “Wonder Woman” movie also had to face some difficulties with the director. The movie was previously supposed to be directed by Michelle MacLaren, who is known for her work in hit TV shows like “Game of Thrones,” “The Walking Dead,” “Braking Bad” and “Better Call Saul.”
Patty Jenkins, who has worked on TV series like “Betrayal” and “The Killing,” took over the reins of the 2017 “Wonder Woman” very recently. According to TheHollywoodReporter, Michelle MacLaren had to leave the project over “creative differences” with the studio.
Joss Whedon also pointed out that although he had put in a lot of efforts for his “Wonder Woman” movie, it may not have “fit in” with the “vision” of DC. The director also pointed out that he had many “joke ideas” that may get rejected when pitched to the executives at DC.
