'X-Men: Apocalypse': Oscar Isaac Talks Apocalypse's Mission And Character Approach To The Villain
Oscar Isaac has once again discussed his approach with his portrayal of the titular villain in “X-Men: Apocalypse.” The actor revealed how Apocalypse’s intentions in the film somewhat have a biblical connotation.
In an interview with Monkeys Fighting Robots, Oscar Isaac revealed his approach on the villain in “X-Men: Apocalypse.” According to Cinema Blend, the actor’s biblical approach towards the character is actually not “too over the top” considering how Apocalypse is pictured as the destructive villain in the Marvel comics. Although in the comics he’s reportedly never been viewed as having any biblical connotations. But seems that’s what viewers will see in the film based on Isaac’s response.
“Definitely focusing on the fact he is the embodiment of the second coming of the judgements of god and that energy going in. What we are trying to do is make his philosophy and what his mission is, one that is both simple but also holds water, that really makes sense throughout the whole movie,” Oscar Isaac revealed when asked for the preparations he made for his character.
Oscar Isaac had previously spoken about his biblical approach to the titular villain in “X-Men: Apocalypse.” The actor once explained why he does not consider Apocalypse as a mutant during an interview with Cinema Blend. Apocalypse is not supposedly just a product of a genetic change or not just considered as the first mutant. Isaac said Apocalypse can actually be a “God on Earth.” Calling Apocalypse as a mutant is said to be descriptive only and doesn’t really explain who he is.
The actor further added that being a mutant doesn’t necessarily apply to Apocalypse alone. Everything that evolves can supposedly be considered as a mutant. “So I’m playing with what that is and encompassing that in someone that has these kinds of powers,” he revealed.
In the same interview with Cinema Blend, the actor also revealed his fascination with Apocalypse. His appreciation for the character reportedly goes beyond what’s featured in the comics. Oscar Isaac said he’s always been intrigued by the end of times concepts found in the biblical Book of Revelations. For him Marvel’s Apocalypse has always been the embodiment of the Book of Revelations and it’s supposedly this fascination that fuels his portrayal of the villain in “X-Men: Apocalypse.”
