Xiaomi may launch gaming console on Oct. 19
Xiaomi has officially announced it will hold a launch event on Oct. 19 to unveil new products. Lei Jun, Xiaomi chairman and CEO, has confirmed the Xiaomi Mi 5 won’t be showcased at the event.
A teaser image on the media invitation for the Oct. 19 event mentions Xiaomi will launch a “Next Generation” device, according to Mobi Picker. The teaser doesn’t mention the name of the product going to be unveiled next week, however. Hence, rumours started swirling that the much awaited Xiaomi Mi 5 will be announced Oct. 19.
Lei recently published a post on Weibo, the popular Chinese social networking site, which said next generation technology greatly influenced firms making gaming consoles and processors. Mobi Picker claims Lei may be referring to the launch of a gaming product next week.
Lei denied speculation about the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 5, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2, smartwatches, notebooks, and flat panel televisions at the upcoming launch event. He hasn’t confirmed the company will venture into video gaming market, Phone Arena reported.
It’s believed the Xiaomi Mi 5 will hit markets worldwide in December and will carry a price tag of $315 for the starting model. Since the handset is expected to be sold within this year, it will not arrive with the Snapdragon 820 chipset slated to ship in 2016.
There's also speculation the Xiaomi Mi 5 will either feature the Snapdragon 810 or the MediaTek MT6797 chip (also known as Helio X20) that features a deca-core processor. Other specs include Quad HD screen of 5.3-inch; 4 GB of RAM; 16 GB and 64 GB storage variants; a 16 MP rear camera; a front-facing 5 MP camera; a USB Type-C port; a fingerprint sensor and a 3,030 mAh battery.
