Xiaomi Mi 5 won't get Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 820 chipset
Xiaomi is expected to release its most awaited smartphone of the year by December. The Xiaomi Mi5, which is the successor of the Mi4, will hit the market with a price tag of 1,999 Yuan (AU$429 or US$315), which is similar to the price of the 16 GB edition of Mi 4.
The new smartphone is rumoured to be packed with high-end features, including the top-of-the line Snapdragon 820 chipset with 4 GB of RAM. The latest report by Softpedia states the handset won’t be powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor as mentioned by popular leaker, @Leaksfly .
Instead, the Xiaomi Mi5 will be powered by MediaTek’s deca-core Helio X20 SoC. Xiaomi is ready to launch the latest Mi5 and Qualcomm won’t be able to ship the latest Snapdragon 820 chip in time.
Qualcomm slated the release of its most powerful mobile processor for the beginning of 2016. The processor is expected to be built on 14 nm FinFET technology. The new chip is said to be 35 percent faster and 30 percent more power efficient compared to its predecessor.
The Adreno 530 GPU will be able to deliver a 40 percent improvement in graphics performance. It will also house the fastest new LPDDR4 RAM memory standard supporting up to 28 megapixels cameras and 4K video.
The recent An Tu Tu benchmark confirmed the Xiaomi Mi5 had managed a score of 73,075. The device is expected to feature a 5.2-inch Full HD display. It’s rumoured to be the first device to sport Qulacomm’s ultrasonic fingerprint recognition technology.
The new technology uses 3D mapped fingerprints that include minute details of the skin. It can even work with wet and dirty fingers, reports Phone Arena . Back in March, Qualcomm announced the new fingerprint technology intended to eliminate the need for a capacitive sensor.
