Baldwin Deactivates Twitter After Airplane Drama
It is unlike the outspoken actor to withdraw from the public eye, but Alec Baldwin made the decision on Wednesday to deactivate his Twitter account.
The actor's account @AlecBaldwin was gone on Wednesday mid-morning, replaced by a "Deactivated" account. His 600,000 followers saw the account listed as "suspended" by the afternoon.
Baldwin urges his Twitter followers to "un-follow" his Twitter account. "Let's play a game called Mass Unfollowing. I want to crash this acct and start again. But, tonight at 10PM, NY time, unfollow me," one of his last tweets read.
He voiced no reason for his Twitter retirement, but his rep told People, "It's just on hold while he focuses on 30 Rock."
This comes after a highly publicized - by the actor himself, in real time on Twitter - altercation with a flight attendant on Tuesday night.
Baldwin, 53, was dismissed from an American Airlines flight for using his mobile phone after passengers were asked to turn electronic devices off. The veteran actor was playing the game "Words With Friends".
The removal from the plane led to an irate Baldwin, who took to his Twitter immediately after to rage.
"Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving," the 30 Rock comedian first complained to his Twitter followers on Tuesday.
"Last flight w American. Where retired Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950's find jobs as flight attendants," he added a few hours later after being relegated to another flight.
A fellow high-profile passenger, Michael J. Wolf of technology firm Activate, also turned to the social media website to express his disapproval.
"On an AA flight at LAX. Alec Baldwin removed from the plane. We had to go back to the gate. Terrible that everyone had to wait," Wolf tweeted.
Some of the passengers saw the humor in the tense situation.
"We all sat there for about 45 minutes before a flight attendant came on the loudspeaker and said a passenger had to be removed for behaving inappropriately. Minutes later word spread that it was Alec Baldwin. Everyone had a good laugh," one of the passengers revealed to New York Daily News.
In the official statement of American Airlines from TMZ, they revealed that Baldwin "was extremely rude to the crew, calling them inappropriate names and using offensive language."
