Kim Kardashian sure knows how to make a public statement. After announcing her plans to divorce her husband of 72 days, the reality star "unfollowed" Kris Humphries on the popular social medium Twitter.

It is a bold move that seems to be a public maneuver to stress the finality of her decision to file for divorce. The most recognized Kardashian has almost 11 million followers on Twitter.

It affirms the starlet's determination to sever all her ties with soon-to-be ex-husband Humphries, who is reportedly "devastated" by the separation.

The 26-year-old Humphries has not tweeted to his 600,000 plus followers since news broke of his forthcoming divorce but has said he is "willing to do whatever it takes to work." The basketball star is keeping a low profile, cancelling a scheduled appearance at the Las Vegas hotspot Chateau Nightclub. He continues to follow Kardashian on Twitter.

Kardashian, 31, is used to living under the media's watchful eye. She has been in reality television, along with the rest of the Kardashian clan, since 2007. Keeping Up With The Kardashians has spawned three spin-offs featuring the sisters including Kourtney and Khloé Take Miami, Kourtney and Kim Take New York and Khloé & Lamar.

Twitter has proven to be a double-edged sword for the voluptuous beauty. Kardashian has been the target of many jokes on her short-lived marriage.

"@KimKardashian is getting divorced," MTV "Real World" participant Chet Cannon tweeted. "I've known that for 72 days."

Other users took a jab at Kardashian's alleged nearly $18 million profit from her extravagant nuptials in August.

"The Kim Kardashian definition of 'forever' is 'when the check is cashed,'" said book publicist Kathleen Schmidt, who's Twitter alias is @bookgirl96. This was in reference to Kardashian's official statement that she hoped the marriage would last forever.

"Kim Kardashian files for divorce after 72 days. Another example of how same-sex marriage is destroying the sanctity of the very institution," Geoge Takei tweeted.

"I can't wait for E!'s obligatory Kim Kardashian 2-Hour Divorce Spectacular," Jenne Raub said in a tweet that hits pretty close to the truth.

The Kardashian-Humphries divorce even inspired the hashtag #ThingsLongerThanKimsMarriage, which has been trending on Twitter for the past few days.
