'Castle' Season 8 Update: Future Uncertain, Stana Katic, Nathan Fillion Still To Sign New Contracts
It looks like ABC is in no hurry to resolve the mystery surrounding “Castle” Season 8. It has yet to announce whether the show has been renewed or cancelled. Also, there is no news on whether Stana Katic, who plays Kate Beckett, and Nathan Fillion, who plays Rick Castle, have started negotiating a new deal, as their contracts are up for renewal after Season 7 wraps up.
TV Guide’s report has indicated that one of the reasons the show has not yet been renewed is because Katic and Fillion have yet to sign on new contracts. In addition to Katic and Fillion, rest of the original cast members’ contracts are also up for renewal.
Seamus Dever, who plays Detective Kevin Ryan on the show, is among the actors whose contacts are up for renewal. And he has no clue about the future of the show. In his interview with TV Guide, the actor said that no has spoken to him about Season 8 and the last five months have been "limbo." He said that “right now it is really up in the air.”
Speaking about how confident “Castle” team is about Season 8, Dever said to TV Line that the numbers are strong, though the show has not been a favourite of 18-34 demo. He said that the ratings for “Castle” in the 18-40 demo are around 1.6 to 1.7, and for the recent episode it was 1.5. He underscored that they have “always had strong overall numbers.”
“So as far I’ve heard, there’s no indication that we’re going to go anywhere; it’s just a matter of getting everybody at the table and finding out,” the actor told TV Line. Denver said that he would also like to get some answers soon about the show’s future. He joked that his mother-in-law is worried that if the show gets cancelled he may have to look for a teaching job.
David Amann, showrunner of “Castle,” is hopeful that everything will be resolved. He said to TV Guide that they have thought of multiple scenarios. However, for now, the “Castle” team’s main obligation is towards their loyal audience. TV Guide has quoted him as saying, “We're just building the best end of the season that we can."
