Gamer Will Kill for CoD: Modern Warfare 3 as Copies Run Out
An avid gamer will go through the length of bringing out his own warfare as copies of the blockbuster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 were sold out.
A 31-year-old gamer threatened to blow the store and to shoot the employees in a Best Buy shop in Colorado. Police arrested the man after he went wild after told that he'd have to wait for the second batch of copies of the game.
Lomorin Sar threatened to blow up Best Buy's branch in Denver and shoot its employees in the parking lot if he will not be able to get his hands on the recent installment of Call of Duty. Sar is one of the first persons to arrive in the store to get his copy of the game that he ordered that afternoon.
The store manager called the police and authorities pulled over Sar's car outside the store. The suspect was issued a summons alleging misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is the highly-anticipated military-themed war game and was released at midnight. Fans and gamers have formed long queues outside game outlets.
This is not the first act of violence in relation to the said game. Last weekend, a delivery truck loaded with 6,000 copies of Modern Warfare 3 was robbed by unidentified men in France who attacked passengers with tear gas.
Activision Blizzard expects to sell more than 25 million units of the latest installment of the CoD franchise, amounting $1.5 billion making it the core of the business.
There were reports that Modern Warfare 3 will come close to being the highest selling game ever. Two of the top record holders for the fastest selling video game globally are both from the Call of Duty series. Call of Duty: Black Ops generated $650 million in the first five days of it going on sale while Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 did $550 million.
Call of Duty has a cult-like following. Thus, long queues are not unusual on the pre-sale of the game. A lot of people are waiting for the game due to its new feature. The game has a single-player and multi-player mode. The single-player mode could take "anything from 4 to 10 hours" to complete, while the multi-player mode could last for however long you wanted as you were playing against people online and the scenarios constantly changed.
