U.S. carrier AT&T has confirmed the October 10 roll out schedule for the Nokia Amber Update in the Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone handset. The latest software will roll out as well for the Nokia Lumia 820 smartphone when AT&T made the announcement to their customers in the Community Forums.

Nokia Lumia owners will now get the prompt from their devices if they are entitled to the software upgrade. The updates for the Windows Phone can be manually checked in the Phone Update section from the Nokia device's Settings application.

The other Nokia Lumia smartphones in AT&T that comes with the new Amber Update are the Nokia Lumia 520 and Nokia Lumia 925. The Nokia Amber update includes improvements in the auto-focus and low-light photo quality, the addition of the "Smart Camera" feature that allows the smartphone owners to capture numerous images and then put them together in different useful ways.

The Amber update includes as well the "Glance" smartphone feature that allows the users to view awaiting notifications even when the handset is in sleep mode, use the FM radio tuner, turn the device into a faint night time clock and flip over the smartphone in order to silence the incoming ringer phone calls.

Additionally, the Microsoft GDR2 update for the Windows Phone has been included in the rollout. The Windows Phone handset owners can also expect enhancements to Xbox Music interface, FM Radio support, the ability to set the default lens in the Camera app, performance developments for Skype and improved HTML5 compatibility in Internet Explorer. The GDR2 has the support for the CalDAV and CardDAV which eventually become a requirement in syncing Google services like Gmail, Contacts and Calendar with the Windows Phone handsets.

In the mean time, the bigger update called GDR3 is reportedly set to arrive in the near future. The latest update will be able to support 1080p screen displays in new Windows Phone handsets and add up a couple of new features such as a driving mode, screen orientation lock and possibly a way to send or view text messages on the Web or from a Windows PC.

The Nokia Lumia 920 features a bright and colourful plastic body in a 4.5-inch screen size with Windows Phone 8 OS and an 8.7MP rear-facing camera. The smartphone is equipped as well with the new software called "City Lens" that shows the names of restaurants or shops when the device owners point the camera in their direction.

The Nokia Lumia 820, on the other hand, features a 4.3-inch OLED screen display with scratch resistant glass, runs on Windows 8 OS, 1.5GHz dual-core processor and an 8MP rear-facing camera. The device has support with LTE connectivity, a microSD card slot available for memory storage expansion and a Wireless Charging option.
