Over the past few days, the rumour mill has been busy saying the Chinese subsidiary of PepsiCo is working on a Pepsi Android smartphone. Well, PepsiCo has confirmed the rumour and said it plans to make smartphones and accessories in China.

A spokeswoman from PepsiCo told Reuters the company will partner with another firm to build the Pepsi phone and its accessories. The handset will be exclusive to China.

Despite this, there are many Chinese e-retailers such as Gear Best that could make the handset available for buyers across the world. Pepsi has refrained from revealing details of the handset, but the rumour mill has revealed the purported specs, features and price of the Pepsi phone.

According to Mobi Picker, the Pepsi smartphone will be a midrange device that will be launched with the moniker Pepsi P1. It’s expected to be officially announced on Oct. 20 in Beijing.

The Pepsi P1 will be fitted with 5.5-inch display screen that will support full HD resolution at 1920 x 1080 pixels. The MediaTek MT6792 chipset featuring a 1.7 GHz octa-core processor will power the device along with 2 GB of RAM.
