There have been a number of rumours milling around regarding Samsung Galaxy S5 as it is the much-anticipated flagship phone of the Korean company. Besides the supposed new technology coming with the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date, there are also few clues that hint that more fans may be seeing Samsung's new phone earlier this year.

The first is that, instead of the expected April launch, new talk about a mid-March Samsung Galaxy S5 release date is now circulating in relation to an event in London. This is based on a report from BGR, which quotes Italian journalist Flavio Piccioni about how the next big global launch event where the company can feature the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date is set for London, based on the claims of a reliable, but unnamed, source.

So far, the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date has far been narrowed down, either by basing it on when last year's release date was set or by setting it against the potential events for release.

Goodbye Metal Design for the Samsung Galaxy S5?

After all the speculations about a metal design finally taking the place of the polycarbonate body that Samsung has long used for its smartphones, it seems that the company will still not go the metal route for 2014's Samsung Galaxy S5.

At the CES 2014, Samsung has already given its two cents on how it won't try to be like its top competitors, iPhone and HTC.

"I don't believe Samsung will go down the route of making a metal device just because other manufacturers are," said Kyle Brown, head of technical product management at Samsung, to Trusted Reviews.

But there's still hope that a metal design may be in the cards in the future. Or if not a metal body, it would be materials that give the same premium feel to Samsung's smartphones without jacking up the price to jar its customers.

"Samsung is obviously looking at the way other manufacturers have made that premium feel," Mr Brown added.

The great thing about it is that it may be working on even better materials and make that had been used for the likes of its Samsung Galaxy S4 Active, perhaps a true water- and scratch-proof Samsung Galaxy S5 for more durability.

Then again, the metal design may not have to be the Samsung Galaxy S5 at all, since there are also reports that point to both a plastic and metal design being released. If anything, the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date may show off the plastic body while another unit, which GSM Arena hints to be the Galaxy F, may have the metal design, though this can mean a big increase in price.

Iris and Fingerprint Scanners

The advent of alternative security measures have boosted the interest in the likes of iris and fingerprint scanners, both of which have been rumoured to be seen on the Samsung Galaxy S5 release date.

The fingerprint scanner, also seen in other smartphone brands like the iPhone 5S, has been rumoured for the Samsung Galaxy S5. It has even been hinted that Validity, a company specialising in fingerprint sensors, may debut in the Samsung Galaxy S5. But going beyond what's already expected in other smartphones, Know Your Mobile reports that there is also interest and early work being done with iris scanners for the 2014 Samsung smartphone.

"We are studying the possibility but can't really say whether we will have it or not on the S5," said Lee Young Hee, mobile chief at Samsung, in an interview with Bloomberg quoted by Know Your Mobile.

Similar to the Samsung Galaxy S4, which already featured eye tracking technology for some of its newer features, it may be that the company is building up on that technology for its Samsung Galaxy S5.

Head Tracking as the Next Gimmick?

While the Smart Scroll and Smart Stay eye tracking technology was delivered by Samsung Galaxy S4, there's now a possibility that a head-tracking feature may be incorporated in the Samsung Galaxy S5.

CNet has spotted a patent application in Europe that hints at controlling a smartphone via head tracking mechanics with the use of the front camera. The patent was applied near the time when iris scanning was announced at the CES 2014, though there have been no details or announcements about this new gimmick.
