Asian Tennis Federation Proposes 5th Grand Slam Event For Tennis

Tradition states that there are four Grand Slam tennis tournaments in the sport. Is there room for another one to be held in a continent that has a large following in the sport? The Asian Tennis Federation (ATF) certainly thinks so and believes a fifth major tourney would help tennis’ cause and at the same time assist the development of the sport in a region largely ignored for the longest time.

Top and higher seeds Philippines (no. 1), Finland (no. 8) and Greece (no. 13) took care of business in the Round of 32 of the 2014 World Cup of Pool beating separate opponents on opening day of the tournament held at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth, England.

Two other seeded countries— Italy (no. 16) and Japan (no. 12) weren’t as successful and suffered the upsets on the first day of the pool championships which offers a prize pool of $250,000.

Oceania Countries To Compete In 2017 Asian Games

Oceania countries such as Australia and New Zealand will soon participate in the 2017 Asian Games as Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) President Shiek Sabah confirmed the arrangement to allow the countries to send participants.
