Now that Christmas is finally here, it's time to see what video games from 2013 would either best celebrate the yuletide season with or can be the embodiment of fun and relaxation while gamers enjoy and de-stress this December.

Here are five games that gamers may want to try now that they have more time on their hands.

'Pokemon X and Y'

Perhaps one of the biggest games this year for Nintendo, as well as the game with a very big fanbase, "Pokemon X and Y" can be a gamer's holiday must-play.

This is great for anyone who has been following the Pokemon franchise, and this sixth generation is actually a more exciting one given the many events, new features and even issues that have come with it.

From having the first-ever extensive cheat developed by fans to the new Pokemon Bank, which can store and make use of other stored Pokemons from previous games, it's one of the biggest Pokemon games to date.

'Borderlands 2'

If crazy antics and crazier characters are a player's thing, "Borderlands 2" may be a good way to kill time during Christmas.

Ideally, this spot can also be interchanged with the equal riot of a game that is "GTA 5," but given how "Borderlands 2" has just released a Christmas DLC titled How Marcus Saved Mercenary Day, then it fits right in with the season.

Destructoid reports that the DLC, which is the last in the installment of the Headhunter series, has promise in terms of storyline, as it puts Marcus in a "Borderlands 2" model of Scrooge.

There are also new enemies, some re-skinned like the Bullymongs becoming yetis, while there are also new ones like the Frost Nippers, which are animated snowmen.

'Saints Row 4'

Another crazy game with a Christmas-themed DLC is "Saints Row 4," which will give some good ol' holiday cheer to those playing the Xbox 360, PS3 or PC.

Titled How the Saints Save Christmas, the newest "Saints Row 4" DLC comes with the season pass or players can purchase it at $6.99. It brings new story missions, new vehicles and new weapons, including the Christmas Dubstep Gun and the North Pole.

For fans of the game, this may be the best time to indulge in the latest installment and DLC, as news of a possible new game has already been hinted. According to VG 24/7, a Jay Mohr, who is one of the voice actors in the series, has tweeted, "About to do my voice over work for new Saints Row video game."

And even though no confirmation has been given yet by publisher Deep Silver, the tweet can mean one of two things: "Saints Row 5" or another DLC following the Christmas add-on is in the works.

'Minecraft: PS3 Edition'

PS3 players may have celebrated a little earlier for the holidays because of the early release of the "Minecraft: PS3 Edition" last Dec 17 for North America. The franchise, which has been exclusive for the Xbox 360, has found its way to three PlayStation platforms, PS3, PS Vita and PS4, this year.

Since "Minecraft" is all about the building process, the Christmas season would be a great time to experiment with the game. PS4 gamers can accustom theirselves with the game, which has just been recently bug fixed.

Or better yet, they can also wait for the PS4 version, which is said to come out in 2014. However, don't expect cross-play features to be available, as the latest report from PlayStation Lifestyle states that Owen Hill from Mojang has explicitly said that the "Minecraft: PS3" and "Minecraft: PS4" versions "will be different games, with different world sizes so this is unlikely."

'Skylanders SWAP Force'

For the kids, "Skylanders SWAP Force Dark Edition" has been listed by Nick Jr. Parents Blog as one of the games that they can play during the Christmas season.

Aside from having an expansive platform availability - kids can play via the PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, Wii U, and 3DS - there are also new figurines that are available.

Kids can now have up to 256 combinations, while also making use of previous "Skylanders" series figurines, so parents' Christmas budget won't have to be stretched too much. This game is available at $74.99 for the Starter Pack with figurines ranging from prices between $14.99 and $24.99, according to USA Today.
