Xbox One News: October System Update And TGS 2014 Lineup Previewed
Even though September has been here for barely a week, Microsoft is already teasing the October System Update for the Xbox One. It appears to be part of the Xbox One's continued improvement, with preparations to roll out some more features onto the next-gen console.
And for this particular update, Microsoft has grouped the upcoming changes into two themes, the New Snap and Friends functions and Improvements for TV and video. The former is meant to improve all the apps related to Snap, SmartGlass and Achievements while the latter is aimed at improving viewing experience on the Xbox One.
Some of the new Snap updates will bring faster and easier access to different features like Friends, Messages, battery indicator and Game DVR even while you are playing a game. A menu will pop up upon double-tapping the Xbox button on the controller. There are even two more apps that have been suited for the Snap mode: the Friends App and the Messages Snap App.
For the Achievements App, you can now browse through friends who have unlocked specific achievements and see what you've already unlocked yourself. The Friends section is also getting updates so you can now stay updated with their activities, including even their Gamerscore improvements within the month. The improved Friends section has been on preview mode, but everyone on the Xbox One will be getting it come the Xbox One October system update.
For TV and video viewing on the Xbox One, Microsoft has also added DLNA streaming to those who have been previewing the new features. This means easier access to music, photo slideshows and other media content that can be connected to via DLNA server protocols. Playback of videos in MKV files via a USB will now also be supported. There's also the Live TV Trending, so you can see what's great on TV based on your location and OneGuide settings.
The Xbox One Digital TV Tuner will now be available as an Xbox One accessory in more countries, specifically the U.K., Spain, France, Italy and Germany this Oct. 21. What this does is basically let you use the Xbox One to watch TV. It also lets you stream TV from your home network onto your smartphone or smart device.
While some of these improvements will come in October, September will bring more games to the Xbox One with the TGS 2014. Microsoft has also just announced its lineup for the Xbox platforms, with 22 games for the Xbox One and one for its last-gen console.
