Peyton Manning is nearing a decision if he wants to return for at least a year in the National Football League, or NFL. The Denver Broncos veteran quarterback met with team officials but has yet to decide on his status for next season. Manning met with Broncos general manager John Elway and chief executive officer Joe Ellis on Thursday, according to abcnews.go.com.

Manning has was previously seen working out in the lead-up to the decision. Part of the process is for Manning to get clearance from doctors and pass a physical test to show he’s fit to play for the 2015 NFL Season. If Manning is in the roster by March 9, 2015, his 2015 salary of $19 million will be fully guaranteed. Manning’s surgically repaired neck will be one of things doctors will look at as the 38 year old QB suffered from various injuries in the second half of the regular season and also in the posteason.

"Don't see it being that significant, I feel pretty confident I would pass that physical, that my neck is in good shape," said in the article. "I'd like to avoid a crowd standing outside the MRI room, if possible. I've felt secure about that the past three years and feel the same about that."

Both Elway and newly-hired head coach Gary Kubiak have stated that they want the veteran quarterback under centre for the next season. Kubiak replaced John Fox as head coach of the team and it remains to be seen how Manning will fit the new offensive schemes of the new coach.

Manning and the Broncos had a disappointing exit in the recent NFL postseason losing to the Indianapolis Colts, 24-13 in the divisional round playoffs. Manning ended up with 211 passing yards on 26-of-46 completions with just one touchdown in that game and was non-committal on a return after getting eliminated. Manning will be playing in his 18th NFL season if he returns and his fourth season with the Broncos. A 14-time Pro Bowler, Manning has had an illustrious NFL career already highlighted by a Super Bowl XLI win in 2007 when he also won the Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP) honours.
