New Zealand to apologise for convicting men of homosexual acts

The New Zealand Parliament will formally apologise to men who had been convicted of homosexual crimes in the past. Justice Minister Amy Adams will move a motion on Thursday to apologise to those convicted of homosexual crimes under a law that was repealed in 1986.

Qatar has been handed a 13-point list of demands to end the diplomatic crisis. Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt and other countries involved in the rift insist that Qatar sever all ties with terrorist groups, such as ISIS and Muslim Brotherhood.

Australian Shaun Davidson has escaped from his prison in Bali, Indonesia. The WA man, who was jailed in Kerobokan prison for using another man’s passport, is reportedly part of the four foreign escapees, which include a Bulgarian, Malaysian and an Indian prisoner.

West London is currently battling fire after a high-rise tower block in the area is consumed by flames. More than 200 firefighters are currently trying to snuff out the blaze engulfing the 27-storey Grenfell Tower on Latimer Road in North Kensington.

Qatar has been shunned by its neighbours over its alleged ties with terrorism in the region. Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen and Egypt have all cut their diplomatic ties with the Western Asian country after accusing it of backing militant groups such as the Islamic State (IS) and al-Qaeda. Qatar has denied the accusations.

Former Labor minister Ian Macdonald has been sentenced to up to 10 years in jail for brazen misconduct in public office. His ex-union boss, John Maitland, will spend from at least four years to a maximum of six in prison for being an accessory.

The gunman who reportedly killed a police officer on Monday afternoon in Queensland has died following a shootout with cops. Rick Maddison reportedly opened fire on officers after emerging from his bolthole on the same day.
